India has around 30 million units of air conditioners in India. The numbers are expected to reach 45 million over the next 3 years. It has to do with the perception of people towards this category changed from a luxury to a necessity over the last few years. With frequent power-cuts, innovation with SMART battery units also drive sales up. The top air conditioner brands in India are Voltas, LG, Panasonic, Daikin, Samsung, Godrej, Bluestar, Onida, Videocon and Whirlpool. Chinese makers like Haier and Gree have also entered the market in India.
Voltas has emerged as the market leader in the AC market with 20% market share followed by LG and Panasonic. Almost 50% of the market share is held by these three players. The players are launching newer of low-price high efficiency products to grab a larger share of the market.
