Marubeni is very active in power sector for both EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) type of projects as well as IPP (Independent Power Producer) type of projects.
For EPC type of projects, their major entry into India was the successful completion of Gandhar (Jhanor) Combined Cycle Power Project (650 MW) in Gujarat for NTPC wherein full turnkey contract was awarded to Marubeni in 1992 and completed successfully in 1996. For IPP type of projects, they have participated in PPN Power Project in Tamil Nadu as an equity investor of 26% in addition to the role as EPC contractor. Since commencement of commercial operation in 2001, PPN Power Plant has been recording very high plant availability.
Currently, they are developing Ramagundam Coal Fired Thermal Power Project (300MW x 2 Units) as an equity investor of 26% in Andhra Pradesh.
